The most trusted communication platform for businesses

One platform.
Every channel.
Endless possibilities.

Fee reminders, loan alerts, OTPs, member polls and campaigns go out from one account. We route each number to its network, and the delivery report comes back the moment the network confirms it. A USSD menu, a shortcode or a WhatsApp template sits in the same dashboard when you need one.

No smartphone needed

Half your customers are on a feature phone

Kenya has more than 60 million active SIM cards and far fewer smartphones. A USSD menu or an SMS survey works on all of them, with no data bundle, no app and no WhatsApp.

USSD: a menu anyone can dial

A customer dials a code such as *544#, your menu appears, and each reply moves them to the next screen. It is a live session over the network itself, so it works on a KSh 500 handset exactly as it does on a flagship, with no internet at all.

Shared USSD

Your menu lives at an extension of a shared code, for example *657*YOUR_CODE#. The cheapest way to start; most SMEs, NGOs and pilots begin here.

Dedicated USSD

A code of your own, for example *777#. Your brand on the dial string, sessions routed straight to you, and the option regulators expect for financial services.

Surveys people answer by texting back

Write the questions once. Push them by SMS to a group, run them on your own shortcode, or hang them on a USSD code. Respondents reply with a number or a few words, and each answer appears in your dashboard as it arrives.

How it works
  1. 1Build it in the portal from a template or from scratch: yes/no, choice, numbers, free text
  2. 2Send it by SMS to a contact group, a pasted list or everyone in your address book
  3. 3Or attach it to a USSD extension and respondents dial *657*XX# on any phone
  4. 4Watch completion, drop-off and every raw reply live, then export to Excel

The platform

One portal for the
whole team

Finance tops up the wallet, marketing writes the campaign, a manager approves it, and IT plugs the API in. Everyone works in the same account with the permissions their role needs, while the carrier side stays our problem.

One screen per job

Send, check delivery, top up and pull a report without leaving the portal. Counts update while a campaign is still going out.

Stable on the busy days

Fee-reminder week and end-of-month statement runs are exactly when a platform fails. Ours is built to queue, throttle and keep going when thousands of messages fire at once.

All four Kenyan networks

Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom and Equitel from one account. You send to a number; we work out the network and the route.

Under the hood

What runs when you press Send

Direct carrier binds, a durable queue, and a delivery path we own end to end. The platform was rebuilt from the ground up in 2025 on the lessons of ten years in production.

Multi-carrier routing

Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom and Equitel, each on its own direct connection. Every recipient is routed to their network per message, and when one carrier slows down traffic to the others keeps moving.

SafaricomAirtelTelkomEquitel

Real-time delivery reports

The carrier tells us the handset received it, and we tell you in the same second: in the portal, on the API, and on your delivery callback.

API-first design

Anything you can do in the portal you can do over REST. The /v1/ and /v2/ endpoints are frozen, so an integration written years ago still works unchanged.

SMPP access

Bind your own SMPP client for high volumes: submit and receive delivery reports on one persistent session at the throughput your account allows.

Who may send, who may see

Roles decide who sends, who reads reports and who approves a campaign before it goes out. API tokens are scoped to one integration each, every action is written to an audit log, and the platform is run under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019.

JWT AuthScoped API tokensManager approvalsAudit logsRBACKenya DPA 2019

Reports you can hand to finance

Delivery by network and by sender, USSD completion rates, survey drop-off, and campaign counters that move while it sends. One report per product, any date range, exported to Excel.

REST API

One curl command
and you have sent an SMS.

Plain JSON over HTTPS with a Bearer token. Copy the example on the right, swap in your token and a number, and the message is on its way. Code samples for PHP, Python, Node.js and Go are in the docs, and the /v1/ and /v2/ endpoints never change shape, so what you build today keeps working.

Premium shortcodes: how the revenue is shared

When subscribers pay per SMS on your shortcode, the money is split in three steps. Bands are the number of premium SMS sent on the offer in a calendar month.

Step 1

Statutory tax comes off first

33.4% of what the subscriber is charged (VAT and excise duty) is deducted before anyone is paid. The rest is the net.

Step 2

Safaricom takes its share of the net

What is left after Safaricom goes to Bitwise and the shortcode owner together.

What you actually pay

Is WhatsApp included in the SMS rate?
No. Each channel meters separately: SMS at the volume rate above, WhatsApp at its per-message rate, USSD and shortcodes at their monthly fees. You are only charged for the channels you use.
Is VAT included in these prices?
Yes, everywhere. Per-message SMS rates, registration fees and monthly fees (sender IDs, shortcodes, keywords, USSD) are all shown with VAT already included, so the figure you see is what your wallet is charged.
Are there setup or monthly platform fees?
No subscription to use the platform. You pay one-time registration for sender IDs, and monthly fees only for dedicated shortcodes and USSD codes if you take them.
When does a volume discount apply?
Automatically, based on what you send in a calendar month. No commitment or negotiation needed to reach the next tier.

Why Mobile Sasa

Why teams stay

Most of our customers came from another provider. These are the reasons they give for not going back.

We own the delivery path

Direct connections to each carrier, not a reseller of a reseller. When a network slows down we see it on our own dashboards first, and the other networks keep flowing.

Your customers' numbers stay yours

Hashed API tokens, role-scoped permissions, a full audit log, and operations run under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019. We never sell, share or mine your contact lists.

Every subscriber in the country

Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom and Equitel from one account. If a number is live in Kenya, you can reach it.

An API that does not move under you

Plain REST, predictable response codes, signed delivery webhooks. The v1 and v2 endpoints are frozen, so the integration you wrote in 2019 still runs today.

Ten years in production

Mobile Sasa has been sending since 2015 and was rebuilt from scratch in 2025. Same customers, same numbers, a far faster and more transparent platform underneath.

Every message accounted for

Queued, sent, delivered or failed, with the timestamp, the parts and the cost of each one. If something did not arrive, you can see which message and why.

FAQ

Common questions

Not answered here? Send us a message and a person, not a bot, replies within the working day.

How fast are messages delivered?
Most messages reach the handset within 3 to 5 seconds of submission. Safaricom and Airtel usually deliver in under 5 seconds; Telkom and Equitel follow the same path. Bulk campaigns are queued and dispatched at the throughput each carrier allows.
What networks do you support?
All four Kenyan mobile networks: Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom and Equitel. You send to a phone number and we work out the network and the route.
Do I need to sign a contract?
No. Mobile Sasa is prepaid: top up your account and start sending. There is no monthly commitment and no minimum spend. Larger organisations can ask for a postpaid account and settle at the end of the month.
What is a Sender ID and do I need one?
A Sender ID is the name that appears as the sender on the recipient's phone, for example HOSPITAL or SACCO instead of a number. We register it with each carrier for you. Until yours is approved, your messages go out under the shared MOBILESASA name.
What is USSD and who needs it?
USSD is the menu that appears when someone dials a code like *657*123#. It works on every phone, including basic feature phones with no data. Banks, SACCOs, MFIs and anyone serving customers without smartphones use it for balance enquiries, loan applications, registration and voting.
Can I run SMS surveys?
Yes. Build a multi-question survey in the portal and push it by SMS, run it on your own shortcode, or attach it to a USSD code. Respondents reply with a number or a few words. Answers appear in your dashboard as they arrive and export to Excel.
How do I integrate via API?
Create an account, generate an API token under settings, and call the REST API with it as a Bearer token. Endpoints cover single sends, bulk sends, a different message per recipient, delivery-report lookups, webhook callbacks and contact groups. High-volume systems can connect over SMPP instead. The /v1/ and /v2/ endpoints are frozen, so what you build today keeps working.
Is my data and my customers' data secure?
Yes. Mobile Sasa operates under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019. Data is stored encrypted, API tokens are hashed and never kept in plain text, access is role-based, and every action is written to an audit log.
What is Salamu?
Salamu (salamu.co.ke) is Mobile Sasa under your own brand, for companies that want to sell SMS to their clients. You get the portal on your domain with your prices, and our carrier connections underneath.
Can I try before paying?
Yes. Registering gives you 10 free SMS to send straight away, plus the portal and the API to explore. After that you top up as you go. There is no subscription before or after.
